Cutting Edge …for Nearly a Century?

It is interesting to note that the idea of personalized treatment for diseases is not all that new. In fact, the concept was suggested nearly 100 years ago by Wilhelm Johanssen in his work as a botanist, plant physiologist, and geneticist.

Today, Intervention Insights is helping to continue the promise of personalized medicine by focusing our efforts on cancer treatments. Accumulative knowledge of the human genome along with enhanced molecular biology technologies presents a historical opportunity to make advances that can directly benefit cancer patients.

At Intervention Insights, we intend to move these advances forward by working with physicians and patients to match data from molecular-based analysis to drugs specifically targeted to their cancer — today!

Our Story

We believe that a personal approach to therapy has the potential to increase survival time, improve a patient’s quality of life, and offer treatments that increase the chances of response.

Our service uses dynamic molecular profiling techniques to provide physicians with patient-specific information to help with their therapeutic intervention decisions. But to better understand how we got to this point, let’s briefly look back at how we got started.

Pharmacogenomics

The year 2001 marked the first complete sequencing of the human genome. Since then, significant advances in the field of genomics have been made, leading to the creation of a new field associating therapies with genomic signatures of disease — pharmacogenomics.

As the accessibility and abundance of genomic sequences increased and the price for complex analyses continued to decline, the realization for the potential of personalized medicine became clearer.

Van Andel Research Institute

In parallel with the advances in pharmacogenomics, beginning in 2000 researchers at the Van Andel Research Institute (VARI) in Grand Rapids, Michigan undertook development of a novel bioinformatics tool, XB Bio-Integration Suite® (XB-BIS). Their goal was to provide unique insights into disease based on molecular, preclinical, clinical, and therapeutic data.

XB-BIS continues to evolve on the leading edge of molecular medical research being used by numerous clinical researchers, diagnostic, and pharmaceutical organizations on three continents.

Intervention Insights Starts

Intervention Insights was formed in March 2009 to build on the pharmacogenomic work of the VARI. As such, Intervention Insights continues to leverage and further develop the bioinformatics platform in cooperation with the VARI, which avails us to over 600 researchers dedicated to advancing medical research and bringing research from the bench to the bedside.

Our partnership has allowed us to organize and analyze biological information toward our goal of providing this knowledge to clinical partners in communities throughout North America.

Intervention Insights Continues

Intervention Insights will continue to work in close collaboration with our research partners to leverage our combined expertise and experience to continuously improve our therapeutics offering to practicing clinicians.
